We believe there are answers in Latin America’s past and present struggles against capitalism, colonialism and conflict to inform current fights against fascism internationally. By making literature about these histories and current realities available, we can learn how to deconstruct how the present world is built, and how we can construct alternative hopeful futures – alongside one another.
The press is not-for-profit, which means the funds from our books go back to the organisations we have collaborated with, and into printing more militante literature. Run by a small team of migrant, queer women, we focus on accompanying dissident voices and practices to travel across oceans and seas.
This project has two aims:
1. Translate
Languages create bonds when there is a shared way of speaking, but differences in language can present a barrier. At present there is an absence of strong cultural links between the UK, parts of Europe and Latin America, in part due to linguistic barriers, this results in a lack of shared news, literature and learning. Now is the time to create this bond. We hope this fusion through translation helps form links between more organisations, people and movements to share, learn from one another and redistribute resources.
We work with translators from the cultures from which the literature originates to redress cultural bias in translation work. They are credited as artists in their own right.
2. Produce & Distribute
We are setting up a community press, based in Galicia, Northern Spain, to make the printing and distribution of literature in Europe more accessible. We form relationships with bookshops, fairs, community groups and spaces throughout Spain and the UK and hope to expand this as the project grows. In the near future, you will be able to request to print your literature for easier distribution in Europe/the UK and source our literature directly from us.
